Discipline without Yelling

Discipline is about training, not yelling.  I've written down some of my thoughts on how teachers can reach the desired results for student behavior without being loud, sarcastic, or mean.

My name is Omar Munguia, I am an International ESL/Bilingual teacher in Houston. I really enjoyed your article on discipline without shouting. I am 50 years old, and I was a victim of the yelling, sarcasm, and other inappropriate forms of discipline. At that time, no one noticed that I was an ADHD kid, maybe because nobody knew about it. I was born left-handed and teachers forced me to become right-handed and in the end, it turned out to be a good thing for me because I can now do things with both hands! But, what you say is true, as teachers we must find different ways to get our students attention, and many times it is related to our own instructional practices. Keeping students engaged and interested in our teaching will help avoid discipline problems.
